Scenario Planning: The future of the European car market
Key questions
• To identify possible scenarios for the car industry in 20-30 years.
• To assess the future potential of electric cars.
• To look at a number of areas in the automotive industry: innovation, energy and the use of materials, particularly steel and aluminium.
• To investigate emerging trends, and assess how consumer psychology is likely to evolve regarding car purchase and use.
Methodology
• We conducted socio-cultural and economic analysis to determine the scenario-planning model.
• We carried out in-depth interviews with high calibre / high profile experts and key opinion leaders, including: car manufacturers, economists, academics, energy experts, government, town planners and media.
Outcome
• We produced an Executive Summary for internal communication within the client company.
• We conducted internal workshops with the client’s innovation, production, marketing and sales departments. This led to the streamlining of relationships, processes and strategies for them within the automotive industry.
