Ethics is no longer optional. It is absolutely crucial to mitigate against Reputational Risk (both individual and corporate) and ensure economic sustainability. And in the UK, the new Bribery Act 2010 now places a specific requirement on Boards of all UK companies to show leadership - Tone from the Top - and to put in place the “adequate procedures” required by the Act as a defence against any investigation into bribery, corruption and fraud. Companies who get this right will avoid the prosecutions, significant fines and possible even custodial sentences for directors and executives who fail to take these steps. Both the Financial Conduct Authority and the Serious Fraud Office will be looking for a Culture of Integrity, not just Compliance.
